Westside drivers ask for relief of major roadwork on I-10

Construction crews working on the GO 10 project.

I-10 eastbound between Resler Drive and Executive Boulevard is a well-known trouble spot for drivers.

Along with the typical traffic tie-ups in the area, commuters are experiencing added delays due to major construction.

Roadwork in this section of the interstate is just one part of the GO 10 project.

The Texas Department of Transportation recently responded to drivers anxiously awaiting completion of the construction.

“There are no separate completion dates assigned to any section of the GO 10 corridor. The section of I-10 between Sunland Park and Executive Center has a completion date of 2019 (same completion date for the entire GO 10 project); however, we can share some additional information about what’s coming next for that Sunland-Executive section,” said TxDOT officials.

However, the GO10 website offers some slight relief to drivers, stating this area of I-10 may be complete a year ahead of schedule by 2018.

The website states, “As you’ve probably noticed, the concrete pavement for the new CD lanes (collector-distributor lanes) is complete between Sunland and Executive Center. In early 2017, the plan is to move traffic over from the I-10 main lanes and onto the new CD lanes. This would then allow us to complete the center median portion of this section along with repairs to the main lanes. Completion of the inside lanes between Sunland and Executive is currently undetermined; but, expected in early 2018.”

Closures for the week of Nov. 7 through 11 include a complete shutdown on Nov. 10 at I-10 westbound at the Sunland Park exit ramp (Exit 13).

Traffic will be forced to exit at I-10 westbound at Sunland Park (Exit 13) and re-enter I-10 prior to the Sunland Park overpass.
