EL PASO, Texas — Part of the Border West Expressway project will slow traffic on I-10 east in west El Paso.
The rolling closures are scheduled for the next two weeks between Sunland Park Drive and Porfirio Díaz Street.
Crews will be drilling next to I-10 where the Border highway will go.
Jennifer Wright, a spokeswoman for Texas Department of Transportation in El Paso, said the drilling should only take 15 minutes.
She said it probably won't be worth your time to find a detour.
To avoid stopping I-10 east all together, police will be slowing drivers ahead of the project.
"What they're doing is slowing traffic about a mile in advance of their work. So traffic slows to about 15 miles per hour; by the time they get up to where the work was, they're done," said Wright.
The closures are scheduled for two hours, at different times each day, even though the delays may not take that long.
Wright said splitting up the work would be less of an inconvenience for drivers than shutting down the interstate for an entire weekend.
Here's a list of upcoming closures.
