EL PASO, Texas -- — A new year means new construction to highways in EL Paso.
Some new road closures in west El Paso for the Go10 project started on Tuesday.
For the new year, the Texas Department of Transportation has a focus when it comes to the Go10 project.
“There’s going to be a high concentration on bridges,” said Jennifer Wright, the spokesperson for TXDOT. “Including the Resler direct connect. So that’s the Resler Drive on ramp eastbound on East Mesa. That’s going to be reconstructed. It’s a big part of the job.”
I-10 eastbound from Mesa Street to Resler will be down to one lane from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for construction work. That closure will be in place every day through Friday.
“It’s annoying because that means I’ll have to wake up earlier and take more time than the usual,” said Luisa Cardenas, who lives in West El Paso. “It already takes a while to drive to UTEP.”
Driving overnight, there will be several closures as well. Starting Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., I-10 eastbound will be completely closed at the Sunland Park Exit ramp.
Drivers will be forced to exit at Sunland Park and will be detoured to Mesa. They can then re-renter I-10 from Executive Center. That closure will be in place every night Tuesday through Thursday, as well as next Sunday.
North Mesa Street between North and South Desert Boulevard frontage roads will be closed for bridge work from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-10 westbound will be completely closed between the North Mesa Exit ramp and the North Mesa entrance ramp from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and again next Sunday through Thursday.
To get around some of these closures, TXDOT gave KFOX14 alternative routes. The routes suggest using Mesa Street, Doniphan Drive and Sunland Park Drive as alternative routes.
