Traffic at Mesa gets worse as construction continues

The Interstate 10 exit to North Mesa and the two left westbound lanes on Mesa will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday until 5 a.m. Friday as part of the Go-10 project.

Traffic picked up at Mesa and I-10 over the last few months, with constant closures at the intersection.

TXDOT officials said they try to plan the closures during times that won't affect traffic.

"(We) try to do those on the weekends, try to do them a day here and there where we absolutely have to," Texas Department of Transportation engineer Tim Twomey said. "That will be throughout the 3 or 4 years, so just keep in touch with what we are doing and we will advertise things as soon as we know something."

The project is adding features to the intersection of Mesa and I-10, including turnarounds.

The entire Go-10 project is expected to be completed in 2019.

People in the area who have been affected by the closures said they understand change is needed.

"In the long run it is going to help, of course," Ivan Herrera said. "(It's) change you have to adapt. That's just the way it is for things to get better. You're going to have to adapt."

"The truth is all human beings have to sacrifice to see better things coming, and that's what we have to do," John Moore said.
