UTEP Women's Basketball Team will play New Mexico Lobos Thursday

Kevin Baker wins season-opener as new UTEP womens basketball coach.

The UTEP Women’s Basketball team has two games this week.

They’re taking on the New Mexico Lobos on Thursday, and Saturday they play the Houston Baptist Huskies. Both are home games for the Miners.

The Lady Miner’s basketball team are 4-0 this season, after their victory over Texas Southern.

This is also UTEP Women’s Basketball coach Kevin Baker’s first season with the Lady Miners. UTEP Athletics named Baker as the new head coach in spring 2017.

He comes from Angelo State University, where he posted a combined record of 50-14 in two seasons (2015-17). Baker was also the head coach at the University of Texas at Tyler from 2012-15, fashioning a 72-16 mark.

His combined college coaching record is 122-30. Baker’s team captured back-to-back conference championships at UT-Tyler and Angelo State. He led Angelo State to a 25-5 mark in 2016-17, including the school’s first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, and a runner-up finish in the NCAA South Central Regional.

Baker is the eighth head coach in UTEP Women’s Basketball history.

KFOX14 Morning Anchor Kezhal Dashti and Traffic Anchor Kandolite Flores will go live with Coach Baker at 12:30 on Tuesday, on Facebook, along with some of the UTEP Women's Basketball players.
