The IBF World Featherweight Championship between El Paso’s defending champion Jennifer Han and #1 world-ranked contender Lizbeth Crespo has been postponed.

Officials say Han suffered an ankle injury late last week, which forced promoters to reschedule the event to Jan. 27.

The original event was scheduled for Dec. 1 at the El Paso County Coliseum, but the venue will change to the Don Haskins Center.

If you purchased a ticket for the original event, you can return your tickets where you bought them and get a refund.

New tickets will need to be purchased for the Jan. 27 bout, and they will go on sale Dec. 1.

Ticket prices will remain the same at $25, $40, $60, or $100 plus fees.

"We're very disappointed to have to reschedule, but there is no way Jennifer (Han) can fight on December 1st," said Luigi Olcese, Han’s promoter. "It was a decision made basically by the doctor, who instructed her to lay off the ankle for the next 2-3 weeks before resuming her workouts. So after discussing with Jennifer and her trainer, Louie Burke, we knew that meant no fight on Dec. 1 and we would have to now go in late January."

Han said the injury was a freak accident that happened while she was teaching one of her martial arts classes.

"I've been teaching classes for several years and never had an injury. Somehow I sprained my left ankle and eventually it began to swell. It knew it was pretty bad, but was hoping I could somehow fight on Dec. 1. It became obvious quickly we would have to delay it,” Han said.
