The 2017 El Paso Chihuahuas baseball season is upon us and with it comes the reason a lot of people flock to Southwest University Park – the food.

There is good news for foodies because new items have been added to the menu.

This year’s headliner is the $20 “Championship Burrito” in honor of the Chihuahuas winning the Pacific Coast League Championship.

The burrito is perfect for those with a hearty appetite. It consists of a whopping 3 pounds of meat. Meats that include, chicken, barbacoa, picadillo and brisket all wrapped up in a special made 24-inch flour tortilla.

“It’s minor league baseball. We wanted to do something fun and what is more fun than a giant burrito,” said John Schow, general manager for Spector Food Services at Southwest University Park.

Schow said other new items on the menu this year are loaded tater tots, a Chicago dog, a cheddar and jalapeño smoked sausage and mango and strawberry frozen margaritas.

The menu was created with the fans in mind.

“We got comment cards, we talked to people. We changed some products we were using. We’ve also changed some sizes on our beers so we can give a colder product to the fans. We totally listened to what the fans are saying,” Schow said.

April 6 is opening day for the Chihuahuas against Las Vegas.

“We’re excited. We’ve done a lot of stuff. We’ve got a good staff in here. We’re excited, super excited,” Schow said.
