LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico State's Johnny McCants became the team's hero after a half-court shot to win the game against Grand Canyon University Thursday night. NMSU defeated GCU 77-75.
While up by one, GCU's Trey Drechsel missed a free-throw with less than four seconds left in the game. McCants came up with the rebound, got it to half court and took the game-winning shot to give the Aggies the 2-point win.
McCants was tackled by teammates as the buzzer went off. He ended the game with 17 points. Ivan Aurrecochea led the Aggies with 20 points.
New Mexico state is now 12-3, 1-1 WAC. Up next, the Aggies host CSU Bakersfield at the Pan American Center on Saturday.
