Recall Alert: General Motors, Ford and iPhone cases

Recalled iPhone case

General Motors has issued a recall for 690,685 pickup trucks over an issue with the electric power steering system. The automaker reports that the EPS could lose power and the driver could lose control of the steering wheel, particularly at low speeds.

The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra 1500 pickups are affected by this recall.

GM will notify owners and authorized dealers will update the EPS module software for free. GM has not yet said when this recall will begin but the number for it is 17276. Chevrolet customers with questions can contact the automaker at 800-222-1020 and GMC customers can contact the automaker at 800-432-8782.

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Co. has issued a recall for 94,605 cars and trucks over an issue with the seats. The automaker reports that the bolts that hold the seats down might have been manufactured incorrectly.

In that instance, the bolts could break and the seat or seat belt might not be secured to the car. The following models are affected by this recall:

-- 2014 Ford F-150

-- 2014 Ford E-350

-- 2014-2015 Ford Escape

-- 2015 Lincoln MKC

Ford will notify owners and dealers will replace the bad bolts for free starting on Aug. 28. Owners with questions can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 17S17.

Finally, MixBin Electronics has issued a recall for 263,000 iPhone cases that might pose a burn hazard.

The company says the liquid and glitter can leak out of the cases and burn the phone’s users.

The company has received 24 reports of customers having skin irritation or chemical burns. One customer reported having permanent scarring from a chemical burn. Another customer reported chemical burns and swelling to her leg, neck, chest, upper body and hands.

The phone cases were sold online at Amazon, Henri Bendel and MixBin and in Nordstrom Rack, Tory Burch and Victoria Secret stores nationwide between October 2015 and this June for between $15 and $65.

Customers should immediately stop using the phone cases and contact MixBin Electronics at 855-215-4935 for a refund.
