The San Elizario Independent School District has partnered with the El Paso YWCA Paso del Norte region to provide daycare for families once the district switches to a 4-day school week.

In the upcoming 2023-2024 school year San Elizario ISD will transition their schedule from the traditional Monday through Friday to Tuesday through Friday.

Jeannie Meza-Chavez, superintendent of San Elizario ISD said parents have been prepping for the change over the past 6-months.

“Not only are we providing daycare service that day but it's also going to be after-school programming everyday during the week even when we’re in operations Tuesday through Friday.

Chief Operations Officer of the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region, Rocio Castruita said they created a hybrid daycare model for the Monday students have off.

Castruita explained the daycare will operate out of the L.G Alarcon Elementary School on Socorro Road.

Castruita added the daycare will operate with 4 activity leaders who will work with district teacher’s to develop a curriculum in line with what students are learning in the classroom.

“We will be serving ages 4 to 12 and activities are geared and prepared based on their age. Our main focus is to provide them with creative art, steam activities, physical fitness and music and movement.”

She added for students enrolled in the Tuesday - Friday after school program the district will provide transportation to Alarcon Elementary.

The YWCA is still in need of two activity leaders for the San Elizario daycare partnership, to apply click here.
