Ysleta ISD approves tax rate decrease for homeowners

Ysleta Independent School District

Good news for homeowners living within Ysleta Independent School District boundaries - you'll soon be seeing a tax rate decrease.

People within these boundaries can expect to see a 1.5 cent decrease on property taxes.

"It makes me happy as a homeowner. [I can] save a little bit of money. Put more money towards the infrastructure," said homeowner Daniel Taylor.

The tax rate decrease was approved by YISD Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

Now, homeowners will be paying about $10 to $20 less on their property taxes.

Superintendent Xavier de la Torre said the district was expecting a much higher tax rate because of the bond that was passed back in November 2015.

However, favorable market conditions allowed the board to make that decrease.

Homeowners living within district boundaries say it's shocking to hear of a decrease.

Though it may not be much, it's still some relief for their wallets.

"Twenty dollars might not seem like a lot, but it is. So what we can save is a big help for me and my family," said homeowner Juan Ortega.

The district said this is the first tax rate decrease in recent history.
