A woman injured in a multi-vehicle crash on I-10 last week has died from her injuries, police said.

The crash shut down I-10 east at Yarbrough for several hours on Thursday after a semi-truck failed to slow down and caused a pileup.

Police investigators said a 2011 International semi-truck with a flatbed trailer didn't slow down when traffic was backing up.

The driver of the International semi-truck, Gary McDaniel, struck a 2015 Toyota RAV4 driven by Rosa Luna, police said.

Police said the initial collision caused Luna's vehicle to run into a 1996 Chevrolet Astro, 2015 Dodge Charger, 2009 Nissan Sentra and a 2006 Nissan Altima that were stopped in the far right eastbound lane because of traffic congestion.

A 2006 Western Star semi-truck and a 2015 utility truck heading east in the lane next to the far right lane were struck by two of the vehicles in the initial collision, according to police.

Luna was seriously injured in the crash and died from her injuries on Friday, police said.

Jesus Sanchez, who was driving a Chevrolet Astro, and Yolanda Morgan, who was driving a Dodge Charger, were taken to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment.

Police say McDaniel caused the pileup because he failed to control his speed.
