A traffic stop in northeast El Paso Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man on drug charges.

The El Paso Police Department said they stopped 23-year-old Adam Joshua Frias around 3:30 p.m. for reportedly talking on a cellphone while driving in a purple Honda Ridgeline.

Investigators say Gang Unit officers smelled marijuana coming from inside the sport utility truck after they pulled him over on the 8500 block of Dyer Street for a cellphone usage violation.

Police said Frias was the only person in the truck and after an investigation found a pill bottle containing 1.1 grams of hashish (tetrahydrocannabinols), and 65.5 Xanax pills (alprazolam – Xanax) on the vehicle’s floor board.

The El Paso Police Department says Frias was booked in the El Paso County Jail on a $4,500 bail
