Officials confirm that city leaders are working to bring a popular resort to El Paso.

The agenda items for Tuesday’s City Council meeting shows that city officials are working to bring Great Wolf Lodge to El Paso.

The resort is a chain of indoor water parks. Great Wolf Lodge resorts feature restaurants, arcades, spas, fitness rooms and have lots of activities for children, like bowling.

Jessica Herrera, the director of the Economic Development department confirmed the news.

"Really amazing opportunity for our region to increase our draw," she said.

She said the city is working on incentive plans that city council will consider.

"Those incentives, they do not start until the project breaks ground, until the hotel is opened and until they pay a full year of taxes," she said.

Herrera said the resort is looking to invest about $160 million and that this could bring in at least 500 jobs to El Paso.

She said research has shown people will travel six to eight hours to visit Great Wolf Lodges that are located around the country.

"Typically, what you see is 500,000 annual visitors come into the resort," she said. "Close to 30-35% of these visitors come from out of state and of course that increases our opportunity to be an extended stay."

El Pasoans told KFOX14 it's exciting to know El Paso could bring in tourists from all over.

"It would be a great attraction for people to come here and visit," said El Paso resident Sofia Carreon.

"I think it's great for El Paso," said El Paso resident Joseph Sapien. "It should definitely bring more attraction and visitors to El Paso and put El Paso on the map."

The agenda items state that the location for the resort would go be 7850 Paseo Del Norte Blvd. near West Town Marketplace in northwest El Paso.
