Speed, alcohol were factors in crash that seriously injured three teens in Las Cruces

Three people were seriously injured in this crash on Triviz Drive in Las Cruces. Police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle involved in a crash that closed Triviz Drive over the weekend was charged with aggravated DWI and child abuse, police said.

The crash happened Sunday around 3 a.m. on the 2500 block of north Triviz Drive.

The driver of a Honda Civic was speeding, lost control when turning and crashed into a pole, police said.

Police identified the driver as Savannah Ruth Bigelow, 19.

Bigelow, and a 17-year-old boy who was in the rear seat of the car, were pinned inside. Police said firefighters had to extricated them.

The 19-year-old passenger was found outside the car on the ground. She had visible injuries to her head and right leg, police said.

The three occupants suffered serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say their injuries are not life-threatening.

Officers said they learned that all occupants were intoxicated. Police said they also found an empty bottle of whiskey, an empty bottle of rum and a bottle of cognac. In the trunk of the car, officers found several opened or shattered bottles of beer, police said.

Police said they are looking for information on who provided alcohol to those involved. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 575-526-0795.
