Socorro moves forward with restoration plans for Rio Vista Farm

The City of Socorro wants to restore the farm, which is the site of the Old Bracero program.

The city of Socorro continues to move forward with its plans to restore the historic Rio Vista Farm.

City council members discussed funding for the restoration of the site during a meeting Thursday night.

They've gotten several new grants to help with the project.

The city wants to restore the farm, which is the site of the Old Bracero program.

That's where millions of Mexican laborers entered the country as guest workers in the early 1900s.

During Thursday’s meeting, city council accepted two grants: one for almost $20,000, and the other is for $30,000 in state and federal funding.

The grant money will be used for engineering and more preservation efforts.

Since the restoration is still in the planning and design process, it’ll be another two years before construction begins.
