SISD substitute teacher escorted off campus after inappropriate comments

A substitute teacher at SSG. Manuel R. Puentes Middle School was escorted off campus Tuesday for making inappropriate comments.

A substitute teacher is now banned from working in the Socorro School District.

The sub was escorted out of SSG. Manuel R. Puentes Middle School on Tuesday.

Socorro ISD told KFOX14 they received reports of a substitute teacher making inappropriate comments.

"There was an eighth-grade substitute teacher that, apparently, was saying a whole bunch of hate comments,” said Samuel Chacon a student at the middle school. "Stuff that shouldn't be said in a school or to just people in general."

Parents of students at both Puentes Middle School and James P. Butler Elementary received a call about the incident.

"I was a little nervous, because they didn't say what school it was, they said Butler and Puentes,” said parent Edrick McDonald.

They were told both schools were placed under shelter in place safety protocol while the disgruntled sub made their way out.

The school district told us the issue has been addressed with administration and district police services.

Once the substitute was removed, the district said the school day continued as normal.

While some parents told us they didn’t receive the call from the district, others say they appreciate the communication they received.

"I'm pretty satisfied with the reaction time from the school,” said McDonald.

SISD said the substitute teacher will no longer serve as a substitute at their schools.

The name of the teacher has not been released and SISD did not go into detail about what the inappropriate comments were.
