The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about telephone scammers claiming to have relatives hostage.

A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office said people have been receiving phone calls from someone demanding money in exchange for information on a relative’s whereabouts or safety.

Deputies are asking that if anyone receives these types of calls, they gather as much information as possible, including names, phone numbers, wiring details, or locations mentioned during the phone call.

If anyone has received these types of calls, contact the El Paso Police Department’s non-emergency number at 915-832-4400 or the sheriff’s office non-emergency number at 915-832-4408.
