Sheriff's Office: Bowie High School teacher dies while in custody in Hudspeth County

    HUDSPETH COUNTY, Texas - Bowie High School teacher Robert Flores died Tuesday in Hudspeth County; however, the Sheriff's Office and school district released conflicting information about Flores' death.

    According to a spokesperson for the El Paso Independent School District, Flores died in a car crash.

    Gary Flemming, a spokesperson for the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office, said Flores died while being held at the county jail around 5 p.m.

    Flemming said Flores was arrested on public intoxication charges earlier that day, and the cause of his death is not known at this time

    District spokesperson Melissa Martinez said Flores was an English teacher at Bowie for 12 years and was with the district for 20 years.
