KFOX14 learned what caused a deadly crash involving three vehicles in El Paso’s Lower Valley.

The people involved in Thursday's collision around 12:44 p.m. at the intersection of Americas and Pan American have been identified.

Robert Giesbrecht, 48, of El Paso, is accused of running a red light at the intersection, causing the collision.

Police investigators said Giesbrecht struck a Honda Civic that was stopped at a red light.

Giesbrecht was ejected from his vehicle, said El Paso police spokesman Darrel Petry.

Giesbrecht was then run over by his vehicle and died at the scene, said Petry.

The driver of the Honda Civic, 19-year-old Javier Gutierrez, and the driver of a Dodge Avenger, 19-year-old Gian Carlo Mota, were stopped at a red light when Giesbrecht ran through the intersection, according to police.

When Giesbrecht’s vehicle rolled, it struck Mota’s vehicle.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the crash.
