Representative Beto O’Rourke said he will do anything in his power to stop President Donald Trump from building a wall at the southern U.S. border.

O’Rourke talked to the media Wednesday about what he thought in regards to the president’s executive actions.

An 18-foot fence has been in El Paso for close to 10 years. O’Rourke said that fence has already cost taxpayers too much money. He said a physical wall is not necessary.

The congressman also criticized President Trump’s portrayal of the border and Mexican citizens.

“When you classify an entire people as the source for rapist(s) and criminals, that is a racist statement. When your policy is to build a wall, that is, therefore, a racist act,” O’Rourke said.

O’Rouke said he is personally going to invite President Trump to El Paso to see the fence and the Borderland.
