Record-breaking 8.7 million Texans traveling this holiday season

A new study from AAA estimates that a record-breaking 8.7 million Texans will be traveling through the Lone Star State from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. That’s a 2.7 percent increase for year-end holiday travel compared to last year.

Across the United States, the study forecasts a 3.1 percent increase in travel volume compared to last year. It says this is the 9thconsecutive year of rising year-end holiday travel.

The study predicts that travel times during the holiday week could be as much as three times longer than the normal trip.

The Transportation Security Administration put out travel tips for the holiday season.

TxDOT also put out some reminders for drivers.
