Polls for primary election to close at 7 p.m.

Voter turnout

El Paso County election officials said voter turnout has been steady and better than years past.

The polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and with a little over an hour to go, supporters for various candidates are still handing out flyers and holding banners.

Poll worker Marc Brammer said he's happy so far with the voter turnout in precincts 11 and 12. He said more Republicans are coming out and voting this time around.

Brammer said it's typical to see higher voter turnout during presidential primaries versus off-year elections.

He says people in general seem to be more interest in local politics than in previous years.
