Police: 16 charged with DWI over Fourth of July holiday

Police officers arrested 16 people during the Fourth of July holiday.

The El Paso Police Department’s Driving While Intoxicated Task Force worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety to keep the streets safe over the holiday.

Nine people were charged with DWI, one was charged for their second DWI offense, three people were charged for their third DWI offense, two people were charged with driving for driving with a blood alcohol content of more than .15, and one person was arrested on suspicion of DWI while driving with a child, police said.

The arrests happened sometime between Tuesday at midnight and Thursday at 3 a.m.
