Man on wheelchair dies after being struck by truck in east El Paso
A man is dead after being hit by a truck in east El Paso, police said.
The El Paso Police Department tweeted about the incident just before 10 p.m. Thursday.
Investigators identified the man as 53-year old Eduardo Dill.
Dill was in an electric wheelchair going north on Bessemer Drive near Vista Del Sol when he failed to yield the right of way to traffic.
Dill put himself directly in the path of a white 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Susanna Lozano, 27, police said.
The man was taken to Del Sol Medical Center where he died.
Special traffic investigators said Dill was at fault for the accident as he failed to yield the right of way.
Police said this is the 50th traffic fatality of 2016 compared to 35 this same time last year.
This is the 18th pedestrian death this year compared to five during this time last year.
