EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — A 4-year-old boy was killed by family dogs in the backyard of his Lower Valley home, police said.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at a home in the 9100 block of Morelia Road near North Loop Drive.
Police said the boy, later identified as Jacob Brooks, was left by his mother in an enclosed trampoline in the backyard where the four dogs were.
The dogs were turned over to animal services, and the boy’s mother was placed into protective custody and turned over to medical professionals, police said.
Officials said the dogs were euthanized late Friday.
KFOX14 spoke with a witness early Friday morning about the attack.
Albert Hernandez said he was playing basketball when he heard a woman crying and saying her son ran away.
He didn't think the child would get far, so he checked the backyard, where he confronted the dogs.
"So I jumped over the gate, and that's when I found the dogs in one corner. The far left of the house," Hernandez said. "I got closer and closer, and that's when they realized (the dogs were) coming. The first (dog) attacked me, which was the biggest one ... I had to hit it in the face, and that's when it ran."
No charges are expected to be filed.
