Police say off-duty Border Patrol agent has died

An off-duty Border Patrol agent stabbed outside a far east El Paso bar has died, police said .

Isaac Morales, 30, was leaving a bar early Saturday when he was confronted by 39-year-old Hisaias Justo Lopez, who is accused of stabbing Morales to death with a knife.

His body was escorted out of the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Police said Morales was stabbed multiple times outside the Union Drafthouse Bar.

El Paso police found Morales wounded when they arrived at the bar at 12040 Tierra Este Road just before 2 a.m.

Police said Sunday that Morales had been stabbed in the eye.

Investigators believe Lopez started a confrontation when Morales, his girlfriend and another couple were walking to their cars,

Lopez is accused of assaulting Morales with a knife when Morales identified himself as a BP agent. Police say Lopez then ran away.

Morales, his friend and other witnesses began chasing Lopez, police said. During the chase Lopez stopped and stabbed Morales in the face.

"He does have a stab wound to his head or his eye area," said Sgt. Robert Gomez, an El Paso Police public information officer.

Lopez was finally caught about a block away and held down by witnesses until police arrived.

Morales was taken to Del Sol Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition until Wednesday. Police said they were notified of his death Wednesday afternoon. .

Lopez was initially booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on Saturday and charged with criminal attempt murder, but now is facing a murder charge.

Police have not released his booking photo.

Daniel Morales, a family friend tells KFOX14 he has known Morales since Elementary School.

"We're really sorry because they've always been good people to us. It really is a very big loss. My heart shrivels up because I knew him since he was a kid. It's a very unpleasant surprise. It feels ugly," Morales said.
