Northeast El Paso food pantry set to close by the end of the month

You Eat I Eat Community Unity Food Pantry has been helping the less fortunate here in the Northeast for three years.

Owner and founder, Dorene Corothers and her husband have been providing food, clothing and school supplies to children.

But now, the food pantry may have to close its doors for good.

Corothers and her husband did the math and said they can no longer afford to keep it open. They said donations have been scant.

Corothers and her husband have been covering 80 percent of the cost of food for the pantry.

So, if they don't get a permanent sponsor, You Eat I Eat will have to close on Aug. 30.

Corothers said she feels sorry that the pantry won't be able to support this community any more, especially the children.

"I hope that they don't ever have to be in a position that they need to come and utilize a food pantry,” Corothers said. “But I'm glad we have been there for Christmas, for Thanksgiving, for Easter, helping with school supplies. I'm just so thankful."

The president of Veterans for Breakfast, an organization that helps out at You Eat I Eat, said what Corothers has done for the community is nothing short of a miracle.
