NMSU's selection committee narrows the search for new chancellor
The NMSU board of regents announced Tuesday that the selection committee has narrowed down their search for a new chancellor to just five candidates.
Board members said it was a long process and they accepted applications from national and international candidates.
Board members didn’t name any of the five candidates but said they will announce who they are within the next two weeks.
The board said they spent days discussing on the right candidate who will help build a team to drive NMSU to operational excellence.
Students at NMSU say they want their next chancellor to help make NMSU more affordable.
“‘It takes an individual that can lead with integrity, with excellence that has the ability to understand higher education and works with our community, works with our state, and get things done,” NMSU board of regents chairwoman Debra Hicks said.
The board said they will announce who they select as their next chancellor during their May 11 graduation meeting.
July 1 will be the effective start date for a new chancellor.
