Robert Gonzalez was riding his motorcycle down Sunland Park Wednesday night when he collided with a car.

Police say the driver of the car was turning and failed to yield the right of way.

Gonzalez was taken to University Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.

Sandra Walker, the mother of the victim, said

police knocked on her door around midnight to give her the heartbreaking news.

"The two police came by and I didn't believe them. I shook the cop because I told them, he's not dead," Walker said.

Walker says she's been receiving a lot of phone calls and messages all day.

She is happy to know her son was loved by many.

"Thank you all for caring for Robert. He was well-loved. A lot of people loved him. You can see my phone is still ringing" Walker said.

Gonzalez leaves behind a son who his family says meant everything to him.

His family members said they haven't been able to see Gonzalez's body but they hope police will allow that to take place soon.

But for now the family will hold on to the memory of Gonzalez to get them through this difficult time.

"Mijo, I love you very much. Go with God, please. I’ll meet you there one day. I’m sorry you had to go first. But I’ll meet you there one day,” Walker said.
