A motorcyclist was seriously injured when a driver failed to yield the right of way to him Friday afternoon.

Stephen James Sims, 20, of Fort Bliss, was riding an Indian Scout motorcycle in the 3100 block of Lee Trevino Drive, stated El Paso police.

Sims was heading northbound on Lee Trevino Drive at the same time Lorenzo Hernandez, was exiting a driveway at 3140 Lee Trevino and struck Sims.

Sims and his motorcycle slide across the roadway, police stated.

Sims leg was amputated during the slide, police described.

The 20-year-old was taken to the for treatment.

Failure to yield the right of way on behalf of Hernandez is a factor in this crash.

The investigation continues.
