Alleged gang member driving with illegal handgun inside vehicle charged

A traffic stop led to the arrest of an alleged gang member who illegally had a handgun on him, according to El Paso police.

It happened along the 5400 block of Yvette Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

David Lamar Rollins, 30, had an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance, police said.

During the stop, police officers with the gang unit said they found a handgun inside the console of the pickup truck Rollins was driving,

He was arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon and the outstanding warrant.

His bond was set at $15,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
