Man arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers during pursuit in Horizon City

    The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for aggravated assault on Sunday night in Horizon City.

    Deputies said 25-year-old Sergio Gonzalez was going 80 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone when two police officers tried to pull him over around 11:30 p.m.

    Investigators said they managed to corner him in a cul-de-sac at Jeweled Desert Drive and Roslyn Drive.

    According to deputies, Gonzalez then accelerated toward the officers, hit one of them in the leg, and hit the police unit.

    Investigators said the officers fired their weapons, and the chase continued.

    He was later stopped and taken into custody.

    No one was injured.

    Gonzalez was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a public servant.

    The EPCSO Major Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and the Texas Rangers are investigating.
