EL PASO, Texas — A new LGBTQ community center is opening in central El Paso.
Brenda Risch says the Borderland Rainbow Center will hold everything from support meetings to cooking demonstrations.
She said she found there was a need for more support for the transgender community in El Paso while doing a study at UTEP.
"I saw a huge need for people to have their questions answered and have a safe space to discuss their family and what was happening with them," Risch said. "Family support is key for LGBT people."
The center will open in September.
