A family is mourning the death of a 34-year-old woman and her 3-month-old baby following a drunken driving crash in Ciudad Juarez.

Gabriela Estrada and her three-month-old baby, Dante, and family were T-boned by a vehicle that was speeding down La Avenida Gomez Morin and ran a red light Tuesday night.

Estrada and Dante died as result of the crash, said Estrada's mother-in-law, Norma Talamontes Mecardo to KFOX14.

Estrada’s husband Alberto Mecardo and their four other children were in the vehicle as well, she said.

They were taken to various hospitals.

KFOX14 confirmed Mecardo was brought to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment of his serious injuries.

His mother said her son and his family live in Juarez, but Alberto commutes to El Paso for work.

"He does open his eyes and recognizes people. but at the moment he doesn't remember who he was, or where his is at," said Norma Mercado, mother of Alberto.

Mecardo works at Meraki Solutions in El Paso.

He has a dual citizenship which allows him to come here to work but he goes back to his family on the weekends, according to his mom, Norma Talamontes Mecardo.

His 8-year-old daughter managed to walk away from the accident. His 15, 9, and 6-year-old kids are still being treated for their injuries at a hospital in Juarez.

His coworkers on Thursday visited him in University Medical Center hospital and presented him with a donation.

Norma Talamontes Mecardo says her son doesn't know his wife and son passed away in the crash.

"We expect hard times. more than anything i'm waiting for my son's reaction when we tell him the death of his wife and his son," said Norma.

The driver who is believed to have caused the crash was identified as Diego Davila.

He is being treated at a hospital in Juarez and is expected to be booked into jail when he is released.
