Hike and bike trail improvements could be on its way

The trail will include 14 bus stops and new lighting.

The city council is expected to award a construction company with a project to improve a hike and bike trail on Tuesday.

The project costs over $1.1 million. It will take the existing hike and bike trail on Riverbend Drive, add some new features and make it longer.

Currently, the trail runs from Frontera Road and Riverbend Drive to Turnstone Drive. The new trail will stretch to Sunset Road, making the trail 1.4 miles.

The project will include new curbs, landscaping and an irrigation system. There will also be Sun Metro bus stop landing areas at 14 locations down the trial. The entire stretch will have new accent lighting.
