Furloughed workers receive assistance from El Paso utility companies

El Paso Water and El Paso Electric announced they are assisting furloughed workers in preventing their water and electricity from being shut off.

Those people impacted by the partial government shutdown must submit proof of such to the utility company so that their water service is not turned off.

Officials with the utility company are asking for its customers to email with a copy of their identification or pay stub to ensure they are a federal employee, their account number and a phone number or email to reach them.

In the subject line of the email it should read, “Furloughed worker.”

Representatives for the utility company said customers can visit the customer service center at 6400 Boeing Drive from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Customers who provide appropriate identification and verification of furloughed status won’t have their water shut off.

El Paso Electric is offering payment arrangements to furloughed employees on a case-by-base basis. To learn more call 915-543-5970 or 575-526-5555 for New Mexico residents.
