EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — Funeral services for Ruby Rodriguez are scheduled for Sunday, with her burial set for Monday.
Rodriguez, 25, died Monday after authorities said she was killed by her common-law husband.
Family and friends gathered at Bel Air High School Friday afternoon to honor her life. Many wore T-shirts with Rodriguez’s picture on them. Others wore purple ribbons for domestic violence awareness.
One of Rodriguez’s daughter and aunt spoke briefly to the crowd.
“Me and my sister would like to thank you for coming and thank you for all of your support,” her daughter said. “We all love my mom, we miss her and we hope that she is good in heaven.”
Her daughter said Rodriguez has a big heart and a lot of friends and loved everyone.
Rodriguez’s aunt, meanwhile, thanked everyone for their support and for loving Rodriguez right up until her death.
“She was a great person as you all know. Her daughters are going to be very well taken care of and that is also partly thanks to everybody who donated so many things for them. We do appreciate it,” she said.
Afterward, the crowd released teal, white and purple balloons into the air, many had messages written on them to Rodriguez.
A rosary is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday at Perches Funeral Home at 7580 Alameda Ave.
A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at San Antonio Church at 503 Hunter Drive, with burial following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at 401 S. Zaragoza Road.
Rodriguez is survived by her parents, Andrea and Roberto, and her daughters Marlie Andrea and Layla, according to Perches Funeral Home.
