Friends of the 17-year-old shot and killed Wednesday night in the Lower Valley still can’t believe he’s gone.

Juan Cervantes’s body was found on Hughes Circle near Roseway Drive near the home where he lived with his grandparents.

Cervantes was a senior at Ysleta High School.

Sarah Olvera who lives nearby said she heard gunshots.

“From what I heard, I heard a car screech. It sounded like fireworks. Something very small,” Olvera said.

Police said the 17-year-old was shot in the upper body and transported to University Medical Center where he died.

“We went outside, unfortunately we saw the victim on the floor and you know, it’s just very sad to see somebody that young go,” Olvera said.

Meanwhile, Isidro Sanchez and Javier Jimenez are mourning the loss of their friend.

Sanchez said he was hanging out with Cervantes the day before he was murdered.

“I barely got the text this morning from my younger brother and when I got it, I was crying,” Sanchez said. “I should have been with him; I should have been with him.”

Jimenez said Cervantes had plans for the future.

“He’s a great young man. He actually wanted to join the military,” Jimenez said.

Police are still looking for the shooter. Sanchez had a message for the person who murdered his friend.

“I hope it was worth it, what they did. If it makes them feel better. It’s not right.”

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 915-566-8477.
