Former Miner may be called in first round of draft

Will Hernandez

Friday, El Pasoans will be watching and waiting to hear another UTEP Miner's name called out during the NFL draft.

Will Hernandez played left guard for the Miners under Sun Bowl stadium lights.

CBS4 reported The 6 foot 3, 330-pound lineman has been on multiple NFL franchises' draft radar.

Hernandez started all 49 games during his four-year career beginning in 2014 with UTEP.

Many analysts predict Hernandez has a good shot at hearing his name called in the first round.

Hernandez is potentially UTEP's highest-rated pick in the last 50 years.

He told CBS4 in March that he has piqued the interest of the Miami Dolphins, the LA Rams and the Dallas Cowboys.

Some mock drafts have Hernandez playing for the Cincinnati Bengals or the Carolina Panthers.

In any case, ESPN El Paso reports Hernandez will be joining the likes of 88 Miners who've been drafted into the NFL.

The 2018 NFL Draft starts at 6 p.m. on KFOX14. Watch the first round from the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
