A 30-year-old woman faces animal cruelty charges for an incident that happened over the summer.

On July 24, police officers responded to the 14400 block of Pacific Point Drive off Edgemere Boulevard in Far East El Paso to assist Animal Services.

A 2-year-old pit bull was found tied to pallets with no slack to move, and a pit bull puppy was found in an above-ground pool with its head above water, supporting itself on a filter spout, police said.

Police said there wasn’t any shelter, food or water for the dogs and the yard was unkempt. Both dogs had visible injuries, police said.

Detectives with the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit conducted an investigation and issued a warrant for Oyuki Diaz’s arrest.

Diaz, 30, was arrested Thursday and was booked into the county jail on two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals and three traffic warrants. Her bond totaled $8,100.

Police said both pit bulls have been adopted.
