Robert Gallegos was identified by his family as one of three people killed in a fiery crash in far east El Paso on Friday.

His sister, Jacqueline Gallegos, reached out to KFOX14 to honor the memory of her loving brother as they work to protect others from a similar loss.

“Nobody ever expects anything bad to happen to their family or their loved ones or friends,” said Jacqueline Gallegos.

She and her sister Jennifer are still in shock over Robert’s death.

Robert was sitting in the back seat of a car that rolled over and caught fire Friday on Jobe Road.

“Robert had his whole life ahead of him, and he meant so much to us. I mean, he still does,” said Jacqueline Gallegos.

Jennifer said her brother was always there for his family.

“Every time he saw me in a bad mood, he just always would make me smile, make me in a good mood, tell me... a joke, just whatever he could. He never wanted to see me in a bad mood,” said Jennifer Gallegos.

That’s why the family is working to keep Robert’s memory alive and save others from a similar fate.

“These accidents just prove how dangerous these roads are. I feel there's more the city, mainly the CEMEX Construction company, can do to not allow (the) public to travel through these roads that are not built to city standards,” Jennifer Gallegos said.

Added Jacqueline Gallegos: “This road was built for private use of workers that are using big trucks and are going way slower. The public has been accessing these roads."

These sisters are hoping they can spark change to protect other families from losing loved ones on what they say is a dangerous road.

“I would hate to hear that something like this could happen to anyone else and that nothing changed or nobody did anything,” said Jacqueline Gallegos.

Robert’s family said his body has not been released to them, but they are making funeral arrangements.
