The Fallas Paredes store in downtown El Paso had to close after the fire marshal found the building to be dangerous.

Officials with the city announced Tuesday that the building on 310 E. San Antonio Avenue had previously been on a compliance schedule in which it would be checked in 30, 60 and 90 days.

During the building’s 60-day check, the fire marshal reported evidence of a recent fire and an odor in the building that was consistent with an electrical fire.

The fire marshal deemed the building unsafe and said it presents an imminent danger to the people inside.

Earlier this year we reported that the Fallas Paredes had been cited for the elevators and escalators not being maintained, graffiti, abandoned mechanical equipment and the fire protection systems not maintained.

It is unclear if and when the store will reopen.
