Emergency closure on I-10 to fix potholes caused by storms

TxDOT officials said road crews needed to repair potholes caused by recent storms.

I-10 is back open in west El Paso after an emergency closure Thursday morning between Executive and Sunland Park.

TxDOT officials said road crews needed to repair potholes caused by recent storms.

Jennifer Wright, a public affairs officer for TxDOT in El Paso, told CBS 4 that rain water is very damaging to the road.

She recommended that drivers follow the speed limit and keep a safe distance. Wright said there's a big difference hitting a pothole at 50 mph than 70 mph, and it gives you more time to avoid it.

The closure lasted less than one hour.

With more storms in the forecast this week, we could see this problem again. If you notice a pothole on I-10, call 311 or TxDOT.
