EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — Beto O’Rourke is officially running for president in 2020.
KFOX14 talked to people around the Borderland and while many are excited to see him run, others don’t know if he has a solid chance against bigger candidates.
“I think he would be a good candidate but I don’t know if he would be able to go head to head against other big candidates,” said Ingrid Valdez.
Christian Reyes feels the same.
“It might be really hard for him to compete against types of figures like Bernie Sanders,” said Reyes.
On Wednesday, O’Rourke told Vanity Fair that he was born to run in the race for Commander-in-Chief.
“He seems really genuine and really humble, he’s seems trustworthy and you need someone that you can trust nowadays,” said Ingrid Valdez.
El Pasoans said it would be an honor to have someone local represent this country.
“It would be good to have someone local, since he knows what we need around here,” said Andrea Campero.
O’Rourke was Iowa Thursday morning following his announcement.
