EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — The Ninth Amendment says “the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”
That essentially means that not all of our rights as Americans are limited to what's specifically listed in the U.S. Constitution. We are entitled to other rights and other rights can be violated.
Today, El Pasoans gathered at San Jacinto Plaza to make sure we are taking advantage of that amendment.
“We came out today to celebrate our freedom and our right to be happy,” said Kristin Jackson, the director of El Paso’s National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
Organizations represented a variety of topics ranging from cannabis use to home schooling, from the right to bear arms to the legal right to abortion.
“People have to care, nobody cares anymore, people are just letting things happen to them,” Jackson said.
Organizers described the event as something for “patriots and supporters of the Bill of Rights.”
Open Carry Texas, the El Paso Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC), the El Paso Homeschool Association, Sun City Pride and several churches around town were all included in the event.
