El Paso woman dies in three-vehicle crash on I-10 in Doña Ana County

A woman died after a three-vehicle crash on I-10 near Vado, New Mexico on Thursday, according to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.

State police were called were called out near milepost 156 around 11 p.m.

Police found that a 2005 Dodge pickup driven by 63-year-old Ruben Rojas of Mesquite, New Mexico, was driving eastbound of I-10.

Investigators said that for unknown reasons Rojas drove onto the shoulder of the road and crashed into a parked 2017 Ford, pushing it into an unoccupied 2006 Nissan that was also parked.

Michelle Cuaron, 57, of El Paso was inside the Ford and was taken to the Providence Transmountain Hospital where she later died.

The other passengers on the Ford were taken to UMC hospital to be treated for unknown injuries.

Police said they believe alcohol was a factor. Police also said they believe seat belts appeared not to be used properly.

Rojas was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center and was charged with three counts of aggravated driving while under the influence, three counts of of homicide by vehicle, open containers and careless driving.

The investigation is ongoing.
