El Paso woman who falsely reported child abuse admits to lying

Mug shot of Vanessa Macias.

A woman who police said lied about a sexual assault told them she did it after seeing another female communicate with her "acquaintance" on the phone.

Vanessa Macias, 33, was arrested and charged with falsely reporting child abuse.

During a forensic interview with the child, the child did not make a clear claim that the "acquaintance" had sexually abused her, according to the police affidavit.

The charges resulted from a July 2017 investigation, said police.

Macias told police she found out that her "acquaintance" was talking to another woman.

Police said Macias persuaded a child “to participate in the false report of child abuse/sexual abuse” against another person.

Macias admitted that she wanted the man to get in trouble for talking with another woman.

Macias was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Wednesday on a $20,000 bond.
