El Paso’s VA Healthcare System is breaking ground on a new facility to support the growing number of veterans in the community.

The new facility will be located in northwest El Paso, and will cover almost 15,000 square feet.

Officials say the new facility will help veterans gain greater access to health care.

The $2.3 million contract was awarded to Elevation Companies LLC, based out of Denver, Colorado, which will lease the building to VA for 10 years.

The clinic's opening will create approximately 61 new jobs in El Paso.

“This facility is our first opportunity to expand our primary care capability in the El Paso market,” said Michael Amaral, director of the El Paso VA Healthcare System. “This is going to add three new primary care teams which should give us about 4,000 new patient capabilities.”

Tom Foster, a principle of Elevation Companies, said VA buildings are typically built to adhere to a certain concept and augmented based on the needs of the area.

According to Foster, this location will be specialized with larger services for physical therapy, prosthetics, audiology and mental health care.

The clinic will offer mental health, prosthetics, social work, lab, audiology, women's health and telehealth services to area veterans.

“This is more of the VA trying to meet the veterans needs where they live,” said Foster.
