EL PASO, Texas [KFOX14/CBS4] — Over the past year, swimming pool companies in El Paso have seen an increase in new clients and contracts after vacations and social activities were shut down amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
KFOX14 spoke to pool contractors in El Paso to learn how they’ve been able to deliver projects on time while dealing with shortage of manpower and shipping delays on construction materials.
Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president of Silver Springs Pool and Spa said the impact of the pandemic has been positive and negative for his business.
One on hand, the business has been busier than ever with up to 10 requests coming in per day versus the 10 requests per week before the pandemic, however the increase in prices and long shipping delays on construction materials have made the business very overwhelming, according to Rodriguez.
“There's been a surge in the pool construction demand, many homeowners now are realizing they're probably not going to be traveling for a few years, couple of years at least so most people are now building their own pool backyard paradise,” said Rodriguez.
Not only has Rodriguez dealt with prices of materials and equipment skyrocketing anywhere from 15 to 50 percent, he adds there does not seem to be enough man power in El Paso to quickly complete the projects.
Another contractor from El Paso Pool builders told KFOX14 he has experienced similar difficulties with getting a hold of certain materials. There has been a shortage of chlorine tablets, granular chlorine and steel rebars have been difficult to find along pool heaters not being available until June.
Pool contractors asked for patience from clients who are interested in building a pool in the upcoming months.
